Why I Made This List

Cheap and Fun Things To Do With Kids In Denver During Spring & Summer! ($10 or less!)

Denver is not a cheap city right now — anyone living here knows that. So when families ask me what to do with kids without blowing $200 before lunch, I take that seriously. I've been putting together budget-friendly content for a while on my channel, and this one felt overdue. Everything I'm covering here costs $10 or less per person, and in a lot of cases, kids three and under get in free. That's a real number that actually helps a real family trying to get out of the house.

Most of these activities are seasonal, which matters. We're talking May through August — spring and summer in Denver is genuinely its best stretch, and there's more happening around the city during those months than most people realize, even for families working with a tight budget.

What's Actually on the List

Two of the standout options I highlighted in the video are the Denver Trolley and Tiny Town, and I want to give both of them a fair look here.

The Denver Trolley is one of those things that sounds almost too simple, but it works. It's a historic trolley ride, and for families with younger kids especially, that novelty goes a long way. Kids who wouldn't last five minutes in a museum will happily ride a trolley and stare out the window. It's low-effort, low-cost, and the kind of thing you forget exists until someone reminds you.

Tiny Town is the other one I'd point families toward. The name is accurate — it's a miniature historic village out west of the city, and it has a small steam train that kids can ride. It's been around for over a century, which says something. It's not flashy, but that's almost the point. There's something nice about a place that's just been doing its thing for a long time without trying to become a theme park. Worth the drive if you're planning a weekend outing and want something a little different.

Community Events at DCPA

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts runs community events that fit this budget, and I think this one flies under the radar for a lot of families. The DCPA isn't just ticketed performances — there are accessible, lower-cost options that bring families into that space without requiring a big spend. If you've never taken kids to anything at the DCPA, this is a lower-stakes way to start, and it can actually plant a seed for arts interest early without the pressure of a formal production.

I don't have the full event calendar here, so checking their site directly before you go is the move. Programming shifts, dates change, and showing up without confirming is how you end up standing in a parking garage explaining to a six-year-old why we're going back home.

The Honest Take on Budget Activities in Denver

Here's the thing about budget-friendly lists — they're only useful if the activities are actually good, not just cheap. I tried to build this around things that are genuinely worth doing, not filler. Some of the best options in Denver during spring and summer are free or nearly free because the city puts real resources into public programming and outdoor events. You just have to know where to look.

That said, some of these are seasonal and limited, so planning ahead matters more than it would for something open year-round. A lot of these options run May through August and then they're gone until next year. If you're visiting Denver and trying to time a family trip, that window is your sweet spot anyway — the weather cooperates and the city is running at full capacity in terms of events and outdoor activity.

If you want to see the full breakdown with all the links, the video is on my channel. I'll keep updating this kind of content because Denver families deserve options that don't require financing a trip to the zoo. Ten dollars a person is a real budget, and there's more to do within it than most people think.
