Where to Stay for a Red Rocks Concert
Red Rocks is one of the greatest concert venues on earth. Here's where to stay — close to the venue or based in Denver with a short drive out.
Your Options
Morrison & Golden (~10–20 min)
Morrison is right at the base of Red Rocks Road — the closest you can get, with very limited options. Golden is 20 minutes away with more hotels and its own strong bar scene on Washington Avenue.
Lakewood (15–20 min, best value)
The sweet spot for Red Rocks shows — close enough to avoid much traffic, with solid hotels at better prices than downtown. 15–20 minutes from the venue and easy driving.
Downtown Denver (30–35 min)
If you're spending multiple nights, downtown gives you the best food, bars, and access to the rest of the city with Red Rocks as a day trip. Shuttles run from Union Station on show nights — post-show surge can be brutal otherwise.
“Red Rocks is everything people say it is. I've seen shows there in the rain, in perfect 70-degree weather, and in the cold — always worth it. If you're flying in for a show, stay downtown and take a shuttle. If you have a car, Lakewood is the move. Bring layers no matter what.”

Show Night Tips
Book a Shuttle
Multiple shuttles run from Union Station and LoDo on show nights. Pre-booked is cheaper and removes the post-show surge problem entirely.
Bring Layers
Red Rocks sits at 6,450 feet and gets cold after sunset — even in July. A jacket is essential. Temperature can drop 20+ degrees between doors and encore.
Arrive Early
Traffic on Red Rocks Road backs up significantly before big shows. Arrive 90 minutes early if driving. The formations are worth exploring before the show anyway.
Plan Your Red Rocks Night

How these numbers were produced — and what they leave out
Road-network driving routes from each hotel to the Red Rocks parking area, computed over OpenStreetMap with OSRM's car profile on August 31, 2026.
These are free-flow times. The routing engine models speed limits and road types. It has no idea that Red Rocks holds 9,525 people, that the venue says roughly ten thousand of them arrive at once, or that a Denver councilmember put the share who drive at over 90%, often one to a car. Read these as a Tuesday-at-noon baseline, then add for the show.
We deliberately do not publish a show-night multiplier. We went looking for a sourced figure for how long ingress or egress actually takes on a sold-out night and there isn't one — every number circulating traces back to shuttle and ticket-resale marketing with no methodology behind it. We would rather tell you the baseline is a baseline than invent the part we cannot measure.

Parking, shuttles and getting in
Checked against Red Rocks' own pages for the 2026 season. A few of the things everyone “knows” about Red Rocks turn out not to be published anywhere.
Do you pay for parking?
No fee is collected at the gate. The venue's wording is worth reading closely though: for most shows, parking is included in the price of your ticket, and nothing on the site explains which shows are the exception. There is no reserved or premium parking product to buy. Lots are Top Circle, Upper North, Upper South, Lower South 1 and 2 — the second of which everyone calls the Jurassic Lot — plus the Trading Post.
When do you actually need to arrive?
Lots open two hours before door time, and that is the whole of the official guidance — the venue says only to arrive early, especially for general admission. The widely repeated “arrive two hours early” rule is that lot-opening time being misquoted as instruction. Also worth knowing: vehicle entry ends at 8:30pm, and on event days the park closes to the general public around 2pm, so hiking first and staying for the show does not work the way people assume.
Is there any transit? Not really.
RTD does not serve Red Rocks, and there is no Bustang route to it. The new Westracks shuttle from the Jefferson County Government Center station is real but is weekends only, 9:30am to 5pm, Memorial Day to Labor Day— it does not run for evening concerts. For a show, the options are your own car, a rideshare, or a paid shuttle: Red Rocks Shuttle runs about $65 per person round trip from Union Station, the Convention Center, Improper City in RiNo, Avanti in LoHi, the Origin in Golden and Belleview Beer Garden in the Tech Center.
Rideshare changed for 2026
Drop-off is the Upper North Lot or Red Rocks Park Road at Trading Post Road. Pickup at the end of the night is the Jurassic Lot only— Limo Lane is gone this year, and anything not staged inside the park by 8:30pm gets sent there too. The Jurassic Lot is a mile from the South Gate. Plan on a long walk or a wait for a return shuttle, and note that cell service up there is patchy enough to make summoning a car at 11pm its own small adventure.
The climb is the part people underestimate
The venue sits at 6,450 feet — about 1,200 feet above downtown — and the walk up from the lower lots is uphill, partly unpaved and, by local estimates, fifteen to thirty minutes depending on your pace and how adjusted you are to the altitude. Seating runs to around row 70. There is no re-entry once your ticket is scanned except for weather or medical emergencies, and the venue is fully exposed to sun, wind, rain and hail.
Check I-70 before you go, through October 2026
CDOT began bridge repairs at Kipling and Garrison on 2 August 2026, running into late October, with single-lane and ramp closures on the main I-70 approach and full I-70 closures the weekends of 18–22 and 25–29 September. Major delays are expected and Red Rocks is flagging it on its own homepage. If your show falls in that window, the drive times above are the least of it — check the closure schedule and leave accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there hotels walking distance to Red Rocks?
Not really. Red Rocks is a natural amphitheatre carved into sandstone in the mountains outside Morrison — no hotels immediately adjacent. Most concert-goers stay in Lakewood, Golden, or downtown Denver and drive or Uber to the show.
How far is Red Rocks from downtown Denver?
About 30–35 minutes by car with no traffic. On show nights, expect traffic on Highway 285 heading toward the venue. Rideshares surge significantly after shows — factor in a shuttle or designated driver.
What's the closest city to Red Rocks Amphitheatre?
Morrison is right at the base of the road leading up to Red Rocks. Lakewood is the closest suburb of Denver with a real hotel selection, about 15–20 minutes from the venue. Golden is slightly further but a great base with its own character.
Should I stay near Red Rocks or in Denver?
If you're spending multiple nights, stay in Denver — far better food, bars, and access to the city. For a single show night, Lakewood or Golden keeps things simple. Either way, post-show surge pricing on rideshares can be brutal — a shuttle or designated driver is the smarter move.
Is there a shuttle from Denver to Red Rocks?
Yes — several shuttle services run from Union Station and LoDo on show nights. These book fast for big concerts. A pre-booked shuttle removes the post-show Uber problem entirely and is often cheaper.
What should I wear to Red Rocks at night?
Red Rocks sits at 6,450 feet and gets significantly colder after sunset — even in summer. A jacket or sweatshirt is always a good idea. The temperature can drop 20+ degrees between doors opening and the end of the show. Layers are the move.
What's the closest hotel to Red Rocks Amphitheatre?
The Origin Hotel Red Rocks, on the Golden/Morrison side, is the closest branded hotel to the venue — a short drive to the gates. Beyond that, Morrison itself has very limited lodging, so most concert-goers base in Lakewood or Golden and drive or take a shuttle in.
Are there cheap hotels near Red Rocks?
The best value is the west-metro budget and midscale chains in Lakewood and along the Golden corridor — close enough for a short drive, far cheaper than downtown. Show nights for big-name concerts push prices up everywhere, so book early once your date is set.
Are there Marriott or Hilton hotels near Red Rocks?
Yes — Lakewood and Golden, between the venue and Denver, have several Marriott-family and Hilton-family hotels, so brand-loyalty travelers have solid options within a 15–20 minute drive. Use the map below to see which flags sit closest to the amphitheatre.
