FUN Family Things To Do In Denver With Kids (ALL YEAR ROUND!)

Denver is a genuinely good city for families — there's a mix of outdoor stuff, indoor activities, and places that don't feel like they were designed exclusively for adults tolerating children. The tricky part is knowing which spots actually deliver and which ones look good in photos but fall flat in person. I've been around long enough to have opinions on this, and these are the places I'd point a family toward without hesitation.
A quick note on the airport area: if you're staying near DIA or in Aurora, the Gaylord Rockies complex has more going on than most people realize. It's worth knowing about before you assume you have to drive all the way into the city for everything.

Denver Botanic Gardens
This one works year-round, which is rarer than you'd think for outdoor attractions in Colorado. The 1007 York St location is easy to get to from most parts of the city, and the gardens change enough between seasons that repeat visits don't feel redundant. Kids who need something to look at and touch (within reason) tend to do well here — it's not a sit-still kind of place. During the holiday season they do a lights event that's legitimately one of the better ones in the city.
Denver Art Museum
The DAM, as locals call it, is a solid pick because it doesn't feel like a typical "stand here and be quiet" museum. The building itself is interesting enough that kids will notice it before you even get inside. There are interactive sections, and the collection is varied enough to hold attention across different age groups. It sits right at 100 W 14th Ave Pkwy, and parking in that part of downtown is a little annoying — I'd recommend the garage on Acoma and budgeting an extra ten minutes.
The Kirkland at the Denver Art Museum
Right next to the DAM at 1201 Bannock St, the Kirkland is easy to fold into the same trip. It focuses specifically on Colorado artists and regional work, which gives it a more specific point of view than a general collection. If your kids are a little older and starting to develop some actual interest in art, this is a better environment for that conversation than a massive encyclopedic museum. It's smaller, less overwhelming, and worth the stop if you're already in the neighborhood.
Big Blue Bear
The Big Blue Bear at 750-776 14th St is technically public art — a massive blue bear peering into the Colorado Convention Center — but kids love it, and it's free. It makes for a good photo stop and a natural way to explain public art to younger kids without it feeling like a lesson. It's right downtown, so it pairs well with anything else you're doing in that part of the city.
Museo de las Americas
At 861 Santa Fe Dr in the Arts District on Santa Fe, this museum focuses on Latin American art and history across North, Central, and South America. The exhibitions rotate, so what you see depends on when you go — worth checking their current show before you make the trip. It's a good counterpoint to the bigger institutions downtown, and the Santa Fe Arts District itself is worth walking around on the right weekend.
Copper Table
If you're staying near the airport or spending time in Aurora, Copper Table at the Gaylord Rockies (6700 N Gaylord Rockies Blvd) is the restaurant in that complex I'd actually recommend. The food is better than resort food has any right to be, and the space is comfortable without being stuffy. For families, the practical upside is that it handles groups well and the menu is broad enough that picky eaters aren't a crisis.
Mountain Pass Sports Bar
Also at the Gaylord Rockies, Mountain Pass is the more casual option in the complex. It skews sports bar, which means louder, more relaxed, and perfectly fine for kids who have energy to burn. If you've got a group with mixed ages and you just need somewhere that won't require a reservation or a dress code, this works. The food is bar food — that's what it is and it does that job fine.
The Fortunate Prospector
Another Gaylord Rockies spot, the Fortunate Prospector leans into Colorado's mining history aesthetic. It's a bar and small plates kind of place, more adult-oriented in vibe, but not unwelcoming to families in the early evening. Worth mentioning if you're looking for a lower-key drink while the kids have something to eat — it has a bit more personality than a typical hotel bar.
Relache Spa – Gaylord Rockies Resort
This one is specifically for parents who need an hour to themselves. The Relache Spa at the Gaylord Rockies has solid reviews and the kind of amenities you'd expect from a resort property. It's not a kids' activity — it's the thing you book so you can survive the kids' activities. If you're spending a couple of nights in Aurora near the airport, knowing this exists is useful.
Danico Brewing Company
At 18490 E 66th Ave in the Denver 80249 zip code — which is closer to the airport than most people think of as "Denver proper" — Danico Brewing is a neighborhood brewery that welcomes families during the right hours. It's low-key, the beer is good, and it's the kind of place where you don't feel like you dragged your kids somewhere inappropriate. Worth a stop if you're in that part of the metro and want something local rather than chain.
Rocky Mountain National Park
This deserves a mention even in a Denver-area roundup because families consistently underestimate how accessible it is. It's about an hour and a half northwest of Denver, and even a partial day trip can hit some of the most dramatic scenery in Colorado. Younger kids do fine on the shorter, flatter trails around Bear Lake. The drive alone through Estes Park is worth it. Go earlier in the morning if you can — parking fills up at the popular trailheads faster than people expect, especially in summer.
---
For families staying near the airport, the Gaylord Rockies area is more self-contained than I initially gave it credit for — you can eat well, relax, and not need a car for an evening. For families based in the city, the Denver Art Museum and Botanic Gardens are the two that consistently deliver across age ranges and seasons. Rocky Mountain National Park is worth carving out a full day for if the weather cooperates — that one's hard to oversell.
