Things to Know

SoundWalk is a free public art installation on Denver's 16th Street Mall featuring hidden speakers in street drains that emit mysterious animal and nature sounds, designed to create an interactive sonic surprise for pedestrians.

The concept is genuinely clever and fun when it works, creating delightful moments of wonder as people discover where surprising sounds are coming from, but many speakers are non-functional which significantly diminishes the experience.

  • Free and easily accessible while walking around downtown Denver
  • Creative, innovative concept that generates genuine curiosity and joy in discovering the hidden sound sources
  • Multiple speakers are broken or non-functional, with some visitors finding only 2 out of 4-5 drains working
  • Limited appeal if you're not already in the area, as it's a brief novelty rather than a destination attraction

How this is written: we run the full set of recent Google reviews through AI to pull out what guests consistently say — including the complaints, which is why there's a downsides list rather than only the good bits. It's rewritten as new reviews come in, so it describes the hotel as it is now, not as it was whenever someone last got round to writing a paragraph about it. Read the reviews yourself on Google Maps.

Not great; sounded like the ocean waves maybe? Fun that it’s free and we were walking by anyway.. would’ve been fun to hear animals but most are not functional

Super innovative and love that it leaves you wondering as to where the sound is really coming from. Loved watching the puzzled faces and the smiles after. Me and my husband loved our experience and tried to record one of the many that we came across. Super cool experience!

There were 4-5 drains of which only 2 made some sounds. Even if all worked, this is overall a pretty lame "attraction" and I would skip it unless you're right there.

Great idea and was fun to check out but it seemed like some of them may have not been working unfortunately. Still worth checking out if your already going to be in the area.
